X-Ray

X-ray imaging is a quick, noninvasive exam that uses a small amount of ionizing radiation to create images of structures inside the body. X-rays are commonly used to evaluate bones, joints, the chest, and other areas and may help identify fractures, infections, foreign objects, and certain diseases.

During the exam, different tissues absorb X-rays in different amounts. Dense structures, such as bones, appear more clearly, while air-filled areas and soft tissues appear differently on the resulting digital images. A radiologist reviews the images and provides a report to your healthcare provider.
